The largest natural wellness area in Europe, with greenery, cycling and walking paths, sports areas and children's playgrounds
More and more greenery, nature, space for sport, cycling and walking paths. The Parco del Mare (Sea Park) is the major seafront redevelopment project that is transforming the 16 kilometres of Rimini's waterfront.
The Sea Park's guiding principles are naturalisation and a move towards creating more open-air living spaces, anticipating what are now essential needs and requirements, by placing the focus firmly on wellness, environment and sustainable mobility.
The work, partly already completed and partly under construction, has started from the two apexes of the promenade and has already transformed the northen area, the Belvedere area in Marina Centro, the Promenade, between Piazzale Gondar and Via Siracusa, and the Spadazzi promenade in Miramare.
In the northern area, there are over 6 km of waterfront corresponding to the resorts of Torre Pedrera, Viserbella, Viserba and Rivabella completed transformed in exclusively pedestrian areas with a higher degree of naturalness and soft landscape with green areas and Mediterranean-dune vegetation. Here 'community squares' have been set up, small spaces of social conviviality divided into two types: the 'workstations', with stools and high tables with a sea view and the 'relax' lounges, with sofas and low tables to feel at home but being outdoors.
The new south Rimini waterfront, on the other hand, is characterized by fitness islands, spaces dedicated to outdoor activity and well-being. At the end of the waterfront redevelopment, 8 will be the islands with different sizes and characteristics to meet the most varied needs. They will be divided into “functional”, equipped with tools that can be used by a wide range of sports users, and into “calisthenics”, suitable for a range of more trained sportsmen. In the islands you can find tools such as jumping boxes, parallels, pull ups, wall bars, rings and much more to allow a variety of workouts. The islands currently accessible are along the part of the Lungomare already redeveloped in the Marina Centro area.
The new promenade aims to become a place of great attraction and is the backbone of the "Parco del Mare" project, which will also involve the beach in its final layout, with the upgrading of the bathing establishments.
The work is proceeding in parallel with the impressive intervention on the "underground" - the PSBO, sewage water system - and in close synergy with the measures of the Bathing Protection Plan. One of the main projects of the PSBO is the large hydraulic system in Piazzale Kennedy. This large purification system reaches up to 40 metres underground and rises up to 6/8 metres with the Belvedere: a new square on the sea from where the first new section of the redeveloped promenade starts.
The Sea Park is part of the activities of Rimini Strategic Plan for the renewal of the tourism product and for the socio-economic revitalization of the area. It has been recently selected among the finalists for the European Urban Public Space Award 2024 by the ‘Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona’, CCCB. A biennial competition that identifies the best interventions in the creation, transformation and recovery of public spaces in European cities.
