It is the oldest and most prestigious event in the Rimini area.
In its 70 editions it hosted the greatest musicians in the world including Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Riccardo Chailly, Mstislav Rostropovich, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Renata Tebaldi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Zubin Metha, Georges Pretre, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Valery Gergiev, Neville Marriner , James Conlon, Myung-Whun Chung.
The 70th edition opens its doors to music by hosting the major symphonic orchestras, directors and soloists internationally renowned, as well as original projects where music is linked with other arts. Riccardo Muti opens the calendar of the symphonic events at the Galli Theater on August 3rd with an extraordinary event, a selection from 'Le nozze di Figaro', with the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra.
The debut of Sir Simon Rattle, is eagerly awaited. Successor of Claudio Abbado on the podium of the Berliner Philharmoniker, for the first time in Rimini (August 23) at the head of the London Symphony Orchestra.
On September 3rd, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra will be in Rimini, headed by the young Israeli maestro Lahav Shani, discovered by the great Zubin Mehta.
Jordi Savall will direct the Third and Fifth Symphonies, two Beethoven masterpieces proposed in a 'historically informed' reading thanks to the sound of the original instruments of Hesperion XXI - Le Concert des Nations.
On the podium of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel on December 14th.
Together with the symphonic concerts the Sagra Musicale Malatestiana also proposes the cycles: Percuotere la mente, Musiche Antiche, Produzioni, Maestri del Novecento, Musica da Camera, Maestri Riminesi, Dialetto in musica, I giovani e la Sagra.
