"The moon is the only planet which arises behind the mountains and goes down inside ourselves." These are the words pronounced by Tonino Guerra, a poet, writer and screenwriter from a little village near Rimini, who collaborated with some of the most prominent film directors of the world. After his death Rimini pays a tribute to this great poet using his words and his unrealized project about poetry and the sea, to introduce the seventh edition of the Summer New Year’s event: La Notte Rosa.

A rich calendar of upcoming events will animate the first week-end of July with many quotations and references to the moon, the only natural satellite of the earth: from Ludovico Ariosto to Leopardi, from Jules Verne to Federico Fellini, from Michael Jackson (his famous moonwalk) and the Police to Beethoven and the Italian singer Loredana Bertè, to George Melies and Martin Scorsese who celebrated it in his last film, to the poet Italo Calvino and many others.

Every year on this occasion, the squares and the beach promenades of Rimini Riviera will be flooded with pink color, events and music performances in order to create once again the typical magic atmosphere of this special night. La Notte Rosa is a successful event that changes continuously while maintaining the same traits, an occasion to meet, to share dreams and enjoy together during an unforgettable weekend.
Not only concerts, but unique events, reading, theater, dance, contemporary art, romantic sunrises and dawns in special romantic locations.

Highlights of the program:

In Rimini, people will breathe the atmosphere of the Pink Night even few days before the 6th July with the recurrent formula “Waiting for The Pink Night”, a series of events taking place in the beach area and in the historic centre, such as theatre and multimedia shows including the great concerts by the British group Incognito.

As a matter of fact the infectious party atmosphere of the Notte Rosa will already be felt on the days leading up it: on Saturday 30th June, at the harbour, the first “Molo Street Parade” will be staged from sunset to midnight. A kilometre of harbourside will be transformed into Italy’s largest most suggestive open-air venue: the “music” widens its horizons and looks out to sea.

During the weekend of The Pink Night, the Festival “Assalti al Coure” will take place with the title: “Rimini, the moon and you”. The moon is the leitmotif of the Festival eighth edition. Assalti al Cuore reveals the lunar phases of music and literature of our time, staging a kaleidoscope of words, sights and sounds. Around the moon, among scenarios dedicated to the poetic universe of writers, musicians and actors, will intertwine the suggestions coming from the overwhelming feast on the Adriatic. On July 6th ,7th ,8th the moonlight will illuminate the audience and the artists on stage in a dreamlike and rarefied extraordinary lunar landscape. Among the guest Nils Frham, the opening Inserire Floppino, Sonia Bergamasco and Dente introduced by the showcaseby Amycanbe

On Friday evening, 6th July, the clou of the Pink Night, the appointment is with the great concert in Piazzale Fellini close to the beach with GIORGIA in concert and, at midnight, a fantastic fireworks display becomes a frame for the moon, projecting the Riviera in a dreamlike dimension.

The Pink Night has also a Latin styled event thanks to the staff Grancaribe who will involve the pubblic with music, entertainment and Latin American dance: group dances and dance performances of tango, salsa, capoeira and Cuban / Brazilian folk dances will entertain the public along the Lungomare di Vittorio (area beaches 88 and 89) from 9 pm

The events will continue on the beach waiting for the dawn with the poetic performance dedicated to Tonino Guerra "Odiséa" and with "Alba Rosa", wellness and meditation on the beach. This year this kind of happening will be held in several locations, while the highlight of the event will take place in Riminiterme on Sunday 8th July with the splend voice of Malika Ayane.

If you want to admire the moon being at the sea, an interesting proposal will be the boat trips for meditations at sunrise or at full moon. On 6th July guests will set sail on traditional Turkish gulets and historic boats from the ports of Bellaria Igea-Marina, Rimini, and Riccione and toast to the moon from far at sea at midnight.

Among the sports events there is the traditional appointment with the marathon race Rimini-Verucchio, organized by Rimini Golden Club. The departure is foreseen at 6.30 pm on Saturday 7th July from Tre Martiri Square. At the arrival a pink medal will be given to all runners.

In addition a swim contest organized by Garden Sport Club Rimini, Section Masters Swimming, proposes the crossing of the Adriatic sea: the Transadriatica Pola – Rimini. This time our heroes departs from Lussino (Croatia), covering a 160 miles distance continuous swimming, night and day. In the team the swimmers will alternate for an hour each. The arrival in Rimini will be during The Pink Night!

On Saturday 7th July at the dock in San Giuliano Mare, the final of the “Ballroom Dancing Award - Province of Rimini” will take place, in honour of the traditional dance of Romagna: Liscio.

Of course the moon is also the protagonist of the 2012 poster of the event, designed by a graphic from Rimini, Micol Montanari: it is a graphic reworking of the famous cover of the magazine "Epoca" dedicated to the moon landing of July 1969.
