Italy is known as one of the homelands of drawings, certainly a country which has highlighted the beauty and significance of drawing as an art.
Rimini presents the "number zero" of the Biennial of Drawings,
Biennale Disegno Rimini, an exhibition that runs through the centuries without preconceptions and fields of application, proposing a wide range of exhibitions, performances and screenings on the topic faced from different perspectives.
One thousand of drawings will be on display for one of the most interesting art exhibitions in Italy, from Parmigianino to Kentridge, from Guercino to Fontana, from Tintoretto to Baccarini, from Hugo Pratt to Federico Fellini and from the posters by Dudovich to the contemporary artists such as Toccafondo and Nicoletta Ceccoli etc.. More than 20 exhibitions will be set up at the same time
from 12th April to 8th June in prestigious and suggestive venues, public and private, transforming the city in the capital of drawings for two months.
The event also gives visitors the opportunity to discover the oldest and most precious venues in Rimini historic centre, the heart of creativity and art. The City Museum, Castel Sigismondo, Palazzo del Podestà, the Gambalunga Library, FAR gallery of contemporary art, the Museo degli Sguardi (on Rimini hillside), Rimini Film Archives and the Music Institute Lettimi are only a few of the places involved in the initiative.
On the occasion of the Biennale Disegno a new art space in the City Museum, Ala Moderna, will be opened. The location will be the venue for
Cantiere Disegno, where 41 contemporary artists will exhibit during the period of the event, like an art atelier. During the opening ceremony, the Argentine artist Oscar Dominguez, who now lives in Faenza, will lead the public to discover his latest creation.
The first edition of the Biennale Disegno Rimini also proposes a "mosaic" of events around the theme of drawings: meetings, workshops, performances, book presentations, video reviews. One of the main initiatives is the "
Disegno/festival", a container of events taking place
from 16th to 25th May with
highlights on the exclusive work by Umberto Boccioni on display.
In addition, other side exhibitions are housed within the walls of the ancient villages of Longiano and Santarcangelo, inland from Rimini: “Almost a century of design in the collections of Tito Balestra Foundation” is the title of the exhibition on display in the Malatesta Castle in Longiano and in the former Church of the Madonna of Loreto, while the cartoonist Marco Smacchia is at the center of the exhibition at Le Rocche Malatestiane in Santarcangelo. In the historical archaeological museum of santarcangelo Musas, other two exhibitions are staged: "Rebuilding the World", which exhibits the work of 15 artists and "Writing designed", notebooks of contemporary artists and writers. In Cesena, in the splendid setting of the Malatesta Library, do not miss the permanent exhibition of of choral books. Finally, at the Museum degli Sguardi in Covignano the project "Alluna" shows the Koranic tables in Hausa.
On the occasion of the drawing exhibition, a special card, the D Card, is proposed.
In the shops, restaurants and hotels of Rimini participating in the initiative the card is available at the price of € 2.50 and includes the admission to the exhibitions at Sismondo Castle and the visit to the City Museum and the Surgeon's House for the time of the Biennale, until 8th June 2014.
The D Card can be exchanged at the ticket offices of Sigismondo Castle, the City Museum and the Surgeon's House with the entry ticket. The price of € 2.50 has a total value of € 11, that is € 5 the ticket for Sismondo Castle + € 6 the admission fee for the Surgeon's House and the City Museum.
As to the format of the exhibit, a discovering tour of Rimini's history and art treasures is available, thanks to the holiday packages promoted by tour operators (
http://www.riminireservation.en ). It is an opportunity to stroll, breathing the smell of the sea, enjoying the scents of the awakening of nature and recovering the slow mode of a route that leads through historic buildings, old squares, picturesque streets and alleys of a Rimini.
