Our Lady of Mercy Sanctuary
Since the 14th century this church had been part of the Clarisses' Convent; restored in the neoclassical style in the middle of the 19th century, after the miracle that took place here referring to the Virgin Mary's image: on 11th May 1850 the Virgin's eyes wept several times. Pope Pio IX recognized the miracle and offered a golden frame for the miracoluos painting, work of Giuseppe Soleri Brancaleoni who realized it in 1796.
Now the Madonna's image hangs over the high altar.
Remarkable are also the beautiful frescos of the dome by G. Bilancioni from Rimini.
The tradition says that San Francesco stopped here and later, in 1655, the Convent also hosted the Queen of Sweden for one day.
