Waiting for the Museum to Come. Fragments of everyday life

Ceramics exhibition at the City Museum

from 30 December 2023 to 25 February 2024
Exhibitions

A selection of mediaeval and Malatesta ceramics on show while waiting for work to be completed that will change the face of the first floor of the City Museum.
Rethinking the layout of a museum is a unique opportunity to take back in hand, in the true sense of the word, not only the works of art, which have the privilege of having been the subject of years of prestigious studies, but above all those 'minor' artistic artefacts, the fruit of the expert hands of ancient craftsmen. These objects, which have remained motionless for years in the section assigned to them by scholars, can now be observed from different perspectives and recount fragments of the daily lives of the women and men who made and used them. The use of ceramic tableware in the kitchen and on the table is common in the present and in the past: what changes, depending on the periods and fashions, are the shapes of the ceramics that adapt to the function for which they are intended, the evolution of the technology used to produce them, and the aesthetic taste that defines what is refined and valuable.
The exhibition is set up in a display area on the ground floor of the City Museum.
