I fiori del male - The flowers of evil

froml 16th December 2017 to 6th January 2018
Palazzo del Podestà (first floor), piazza Cavour - Rimini historic centre
The stories of women interned in an asylum during the fascist period in a photo-documentary exhibition

An exhibition to give voice and humanity to those women - daughters, mothers, wives, brides, lovers - expelled and marginalized by fascist society. It is called "The Flowers of Evil" (I fiori del male), the photographic-documentary exhibition promoted by the Rompi il silenzio Onlus association. The exhibition will open on Saturday 16th December at 10 am at Palazzo del Podestà and it is dedicated to a difficult and delicate theme, such as women hospitalized in madhouse during Twenties. The images are accompanied by the words: those of the doctors, but also the words left by the same protagonists of the internment experience in the letters that they wrote at home and that, censored, remained in the medical records. The asylum, in this sense, was a privileged observatory from which to analyze the cultural models that have historically contributed to build female deviance and that during the Twenties were ideologically bent to the needs of the regime.
