It is said that after the Epiphany all the Christmas holidays are over, but in Rimini the rich calendar of events continues!
Until 18th January you can visit the Holy Nativity made up of sand on the beach or you can skate on ice in the town centre in Rimini Christmas Square ice rink and ice slide open till 11th January, or at Rimini'canal harbour in the indoor ice rink of Rimini Ice Village, available until January 18th.
Moreover dance performances and exhibitions in the Museum and the art galleries in Rimini still offer an interesting approach to culture and the Ortodox new year celebration on January 13th welcome the traditions of foreign cultures.

A Nativity in the fisherman's world.
In one of the most characteristic areas of Rimini Marina, the harbour, it is possible to admire a suggestive Holy Nativity made of sand, which covers an area of over 450 square meters, in a route among life-sized sand sculptures. A team of artists has given shape to beautiful landscapes through the modelling of sand mixed with water, creating an unconventional sand nativity with many references to characters of our territory. The theme of this year's sand crib is the harbour, a meeting place for departures and arrivals, and the fisherman's world.
Booking is recommended for groups and schools who can visit the crib on request.

The Holy Nativity in the setting of a Roman Rimini
For the 8th consecutive year, Torre Pedrera beach hosts a suggestive sand crib. The project and the creation of the sculptures have been entrusted to the artist of the sand Leonardo Ugolini, who has carried out the work together with an international team. On the occasion of the 2000 years from the beginning of the construction of Tiberius Bridge, the setting of the Holy Nativity this year is Rimini during the Roman period, focusing from the Bridge of Tiberius to the Arch of Augustus, with scenes of everyday life with the countryside and the rural life in the background.

Around the Arch of Augustus a great outdoor amusement park with an ice skating rink and an icy slide has been set up for the amusement of adults and children in the suggestive setting of the ancient Roman Arch.

THE ORTHODOX NEW YEAR’S CELEBRATION
On Tuesday 13th January 2015 in the suggestive setting of the Church in Borgo San Giuliano, the Ecclesiastical Choir of the Orthodox Cathedral in Rimini, directed by Alexander Smakov, presents music from the Eastern Orthodox tradition. After the concert an aperitif will be offered in the venue 'Angolo Divino', in via San Giuliano. Magic Shadows by Catapult
On Thursday 15th January a dance performance by the dance company Catapult is on stage in Rimini. The company, that has obtained great success in the TV show America's Got Talent in 2013 arrives for the first time in Italy with a breathtaking performance of dancing shadows. The Catapult company was created in 2008 by Adam Battelstein, who had worked for nineteen years as a dancer, choreographer and creative director of Pilobolus Dance Theater. The aim of the group is to give a new life to the ancient art of Chinese Shadow through the expression of the human’s body. Catapult is composed by formidable dancers able to surprise the audience by transforming their bodies into almost impossible shapes such as a helicopter, a castle, a flower or a penguin in a world of magic.

OPERA AT THE CINEMA

Lakmé - in original language
On Sunday 18th January the Tiberio Cinema opens its new season of Opera Live with a première in Italy of the opera Lakmé in recorded broadcast from the Sydney Opera House. Lakmé is an opera in three acts by the French composer Léo Delibes on the libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. It is based on the novel "Rarahu ou Le Mariage de Loti Pierre Loti" (1880). Delibes wrote the music between 1881 and 1883 and like many other French works of that period, Lakmé captures the oriental atmosphere of the time: the opera setting is in India during the British rule. The première of Lakmé took place at the Opéra-Comique in Paris April 14, 1883 with the soprano Marie van Zandt. The opera is performed in French with Italian subtitles.

On display works by artists from Ghana realized to promote the film industry in Nigeria, the so-called Nollywood. There are large paintings with symbolic emphasis on canvas, which dig in the animist imagination, and even in the tradition of voodoo. Paintings which take advantage of the change between light and dark, along with different archetypes. This makes the exhibition an impressive cultural insight that translates the life of ambiguities and fears of human beings struggling with the changes of the contemporary society.

Ugo Pasini, born in the Cesena province in 1942, has started as an artist when very young with the encouragement of the masters Alberto Sughi and Osvaldo Piraccini. He made his debut in 1969 with an exhibition in Cesena and in the following decades he has successfully participated in competitions and art exhibitions. On display in this exhibition are more than fifty recent works, a selection of "still life" pictures, the kind of paintings through which Pasini mainly owes its fame as an artist.

BG3 - Biennale dei Giovani artisti italiani - Exhibition of young Italian artists in Rimini City Museum
The Academy of Arts in Bologna is organizing a Biennale of young Italian artists, third in a series that began in 2006. All kind of creativity are on display together in a dynamic equilibrium, referring to a concept of the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, the plateau, a melting pot of different trends and styles. There are paintings, also in the dynamic version of wall painting, works linked to photography, installations and other materials and tools of high conceptual tension. The exhibition has contribution of the Culture department of the region Emilia Romagna and is organized by Renato Barili, Bartorelli Guido and Guido Molinari. It is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
