2024 will be a year dedicated to great international sport: from Tour de France to figure skating world championships, from European artistic gymnastics championships to motor sports, and plans also include an event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Basket Rimini's historic promotion to A1 cathegory.
First of all, 2024 is the year of Tour de France, with the historic arrival in Rimini of the first stage of the most loved and followed cycling race in the world. However, the Grande Boucle is 'only' the spearhead of a calendar of sports events that is full of appointments, from those of great international appeal to the historic tournaments and initiatives promoted by the local clubs that represent the backbone of the city's sports movement.
After the Convention of Italian Baseball and Softball - CON-X 2024 - at the Palacongressi in January, from spring the sports season will blossom, starting with Paganello, the beach ultimate championship that animates the beach over the Easter weekend with athletes from all over the world, before the full immersion in the world of cycling, with the passage of the Giro di Italia (Riccione-Cento stage, 17 May) prologue to the eagerly awaited arrival of the yellow caravan: the date is 29 June, when the Tour de France will arrive in Rimini, after a 205 km route from Florence across the Apennines, passing through the Marecchia Valley and San Marino, before reaching the finish line on the Rimini coast.
The pavilions of the Fiera in Rimini will also be the pulsating centre of indoor events with two major novelties: the European Men's (24-28 April) and Women's (1-5 May) Artistic Gymnastics Championships, and in September the World Artistic Roller Skating Championships, included in the 2024 World Skate Games. Two international level competitions that will be added to two fixed appointments such as Rimini Wellness, scheduled as usual for the Republic Day long weekend (30 May-2 June) and Sportdance, another event dedicated to sports dance champions and scheduled for July.
The spotlight will also be on motors: from the great novelty of the FormulaE World Championship (13/14 April) to the Motorcycle World Championship with the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix that will light up the Misano World Circuit (6/8 September), passing through the TransitaliaMarathon (20/22 September).
There will also be many football tournaments promoted by local sports clubs between spring and summer, as well as sailing events and various appointments dedicated to basketball lovers in the playgrounds around the city, starting with the Rimini Beach Court, the colourful basketball court next to the Belvedere in Piazzale Kennedy.
