National Gallery by Frederick Wiseman - The great art at cinema
Wedneday 11th March 2015
two screenings: at 4 pm and at 8 pm
The documentary film “National Gallery” by Frederick Wiseman arrives in Italy for only one day, Wednesday 11th March. It is the last work by Wiseman, who was awarded with the Golden Lion for lifetime at the last Venice Film Festival and the film was presented and acclaimed last year in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in the Festival of Cannes. The documentary allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the London museum in a tour among the masterpieces that are kept in the National Gallery. It is also a portrait of a place, a narrative of the museum and its relationship with the world, of the people who works there day after day, its audience and the paintings hosted. The documentary of 180 minutes gives a view of works by Leonardo, Caravaggio, Turner, Goya, Titian, Holbein, Bronzino, Rembrandt, Velasquez, Pissarro ... in a kind of game of mirrors, a mosaic of the treasures of art at the cinema.
The film is proposed in English with Italian subtitles.
