An opera in four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the first of three 'opera buffa' written by the composer from Salzburg, to a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte.
Mozart and Da Ponte ensured the success of the opera based on the comedy by Beaumarchais, which was at the origin of a scandal that roused the whole Parisian society. In fact, the opera had been banned by Joseph II in 1785 at the Théâtre de Vienne, due to its political content.
The story is a series of amorous misunderstandings, suspicions, clandestine encounters and escapes.
Antonio Pappano directs an international cast in David McVicar's timeless production.
