In 2017 the New Year’s Opera is 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia', the opera in two acts by Gioachino Rossini on libretto by Cesare Sterbini, inspired on the comedy by Beaumarchais.
The production on stage is directed by Paolo Panizza and performed by the Orchestra Arcangelo Corelli together with the Lyric Choir of Rimini ‘Amintore Galli’, who have been prepared by Maestro Matteo Salvenimi, Maestro Concertatore. Conductor Massimo Taddia.
'Il Barbieri di Sivilgia' is among the most performed operas in the world. It tells the story of Rosina, a young orphan girl beloved by the Count Almaviva. Every man is in love with her, even Bartolo, the old tutor of the girl, who, to avoid surprises, keeps Rosina segregated in the house and forbids to her to have any contact with the outside. Count Almaviva finds help in the barber Figaro who devises some tricks in order to communicate with Rosina through small notes. In meanwhile, the jealous Bartolo decides to marry Rosina and to discredit the rival, by slandering him. Figaro intervenes with one of his escamotages so that Bartolo loses, and at last, love will triumphs.
