Folklore and Festivals

At the Port of Rimini, visitors can admire the historic boats of the Romagna Riviera with their brightly coloured "Vele al Terzo" (lug sails).
This is an occasion where the traditional customs and practices of the ancient local seafaring community come back to life in a commemorative cultural event aimed at all age groups. It features free guided tours of the moored vessels, where the crews are ready to answer any questions, workshops for young children, an exhibition of historical fishing equipment and seashells in collaboration with the E'Scaion Museum, and, on Sunday morning, a sailing parade open to everyone, which will take place parallel to the coast so that the beautiful historic boats can be seen with sails fully unfurled by everyone on the beach (to join the sailing parade, simply turn up before the scheduled time; participation is permitted until maximum capacity is reached).
Navigation with ‘Vele al Terzo’ has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency of Ravenna.

Programme

SATURDAY 13 JUNE 
- Around 10:00 am Arrival of the Historic Boats of the Vele al Terzo Rimini Association at Piazzale Boscovich. 
- Around 3:00 pm Arrival of Historic Boats from other ports in Romagna, which will moor at Piazzale Boscovich. 
- From 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Free guided tours of the moored vessels will be available, where the crews will share the history and characteristics of Romagna's historic working boats and demonstrate the "practice of navigation with Vele al Terzo", which has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency of Ravenna in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Code. 
- From 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Free exhibition of historical fishing equipment organised in collaboration with the E'Scaion Museum, which will also display a selection from their vast collection of seashells. 
- From 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Information point managed in collaboration with ConfAgricoltura, promoting and showcasing local "Km Zero" (zero-mile) produce. 
- From 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Local voluntary associations are invited to visit the vessels to learn about the therapeutic properties of sailing. 
- From 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm: Knot-tying course for children An expert from our seafaring community will run a free knot-tying course for children.
 - Around 7:00 pm Relocation of the vessels inside the Marina di Rimini for an aperitif and dinner reserved exclusively for all crews.

SUNDAY 14 JUNE 
- Around 10:00 am Sailing parade open to everyone free of charge (until maximum vessel capacity is reached). During the parade, the crews will give a lesson on "navigation with Vele al Terzo", which has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency of Ravenna in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Code. The sailing parade will take place parallel to the coast, heading first southwards and then northwards, making the beautiful historic boats visible to everyone on the beach. At the end of the sailing parade, the vessels will return to their respective home ports.

For environmental improvement and protection, only compostable and recyclable materials will be used, and everyone collaborating on the event will raise public awareness about the issues surrounding marine litter and the eco-sustainable behaviours to adopt on beaches and boats.
