Teatro Amintore Galli: Ailey II

Theatre season 2023/2024 - Dance

Friday 3 November 2023
Dance

The opening of the 2023/2024 theatre season is entrusted to one of the most important modern dance companies in the world, Ailey II, an exceptional ensemble that combines the spirit and energy of the best talents of young American dance with the passion and creativity of the most established choreographers. It was founded in 1974 by Alvin Ailey, author of the choreographies with William Forsythe, Francesca Harper, Robert Battle.
The programme presented at Teatro Galli includes:
Enemy in the Figure, the intensely propulsive middle section of William Forsythe's homonymous work, in which Thom Willem's percussive and rhythmic electronic score was the source of the work's choreographic invention and influenced the radical use of light and shadow in the original set design.
Freedom Series (excerpts), is a landscape of memories drawn by Francesca Harper through a series of vignettes between memory and vision of the future, investigating themes of identity and community.
The Hunt is an athletic choreography for six men by Robert Battle, revealing the predatory side of human nature and the primitive thrill of the hunt, in which the thunderous percussion of Les Tambours du Bronx drive the explosive movement to the limits between martial art, gladiator rituals and sporting disciplines.
Finally, Revelations, is a timeless classic and a tribute to the talent of Alvin Ailey, using spirituals, religious songs, gospel and African-American blues.
