The opera staged for 2018 New Year’s Eve in the usual dates, 1 and 3 January, is AIDA, the four-acts melodrama, libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni, from a French prose version by Camille du Locle, script by Auguste Mariette, music by Giuseppe Verdi.
The opera, staged by the Coro Lirico città di Rimini Amintore association, will be directed by Paolo Panizza, with the G. Rossini Symphony Orchestra from Pesaro and the Galli choir, trained by Matteo Salvemini and directed by the choirmaster Massimo Taddia.
Aida is an opera with an important background, between history and legend. It was commissioned to Verdi by the Egyptian Viceroy to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal in 1870. Set in pharaos’ Egypt, it deals with war, love and death, with the grandness of proper epic, reaching its expressive climax in the most famous triumphal march from the second act.
Aida is one the most famous and staged operas in the world, alternating the popular moments of external splendour with more intimate settings, dedicated to each character’s feelings and passions from the first lines until the ending, in which the main characters bravely and proudly face their fate.
