On Wednesday 30 July at 5.30 p.m., a magnificent exhibition will open until September at the Grand Hotel in Rimini, dedicated to the great Alberto Sordi, the undisputed ‘Colonel of Italian comedy’ who knew how to tell the story of Italy and Italians through his unparalleled comic verve.
A natural talent, strengthened during his years of apprenticeship through radio, revue theatre and dubbing, Sordi is recounted here in the presence of great directors: from Federico Fellini, Steno, Dino Risi, Mario Monicelli, to Vittorio De Sica, Luciano Salce and Ettore Scola. A long tracking shot of images immortalising masterfully interpreted characters that have entered by right not only into the cinematographic cult of our country, but also into its social and slang fabric. The famous actor is linked to the city of Rimini for the unforgettable films of Federico Fellini and the images relating to two films above all: ‘Lo sceicco bianco’ (1952), the film that launched the actor to the general public, and ‘I vitelloni’ (1953), a comedy that the director decided to set in Rimini.
Curated by Marco Dionisi, the exhibition includes dozens of photographs, both on and off-stage, that tell us about Sordi in front of the camera, as well as personal objects, documents, papers, film memorabilia, movie posters, and audiovisual evidence from the Casa Museo Alberto Sordi, courtesy of the Foundation dedicated to him.
