Saturday 10 June at 3.30pm inauguration of the historical photo exhibition entitled 'Holodomor. An ignored genocide'. Massimiliano Di Pasquale, associate researcher of the Gino Germani Institute of Social Sciences and Strategic Studies, where he directs the Ukraine Observatory, attends for the occasion.
Holodomòr is a Ukrainian term composed of the word Hòlod (hunger, famine) and moryti (to kill, cause a slow and painful death), whose meaning is 'extermination by hunger'. The term is used to designate the genocide of the Ukrainian people perpetrated by Stalin's government in the years 1932-1933 which, decided to remove the problem with violence, causing over 7 million victims.
The aim of the exhibition is to make known, through photos, figures and testimonies, the horror experienced by the Ukrainian people in those years and to have the Holodomor recognized as genocide by the Italian Parliament.
A small museum will be set up in a special room where objects and clothing that are part of Ukrainian popular culture and tradition will be exhibited. Preparation and management of the small museum are handled by Nataliya Vasylivna Basarab.
